Black Garage Door Upgrade

Residential · Entrance & Access · British Columbia

A black Hörmann Clima Tech 4400 brings the garage opening into the same visual language as the home’s entrance, lighting and dark exterior accents. A LiftMaster 6580L belt-drive opener completes the operating system behind it.

01 · Architectural fit

Make the garage part of the front elevation.

A garage door can occupy a large share of the front elevation, so proportion, panel layout and colour carry real architectural weight. Here, black creates contrast against the light cladding while linking the garage visually to the adjacent entrance.

The selected finish also makes the opening feel integrated with the trim, lighting and roofline. From the street, the door and entrance read as one coordinated composition.

02 · Insulated door system

Insulation behind the panel.

Hörmann describes the Clima Tech 4400 as a 1½-inch polyurethane-insulated residential steel door. Its three-layer construction bonds the insulation core between steel front and back skins, while thermally broken tongue-and-groove section joints help limit heat transfer through the panel connections.

Manufacturer-published panel values include R-15.7, U-0.209 and air infiltration of 0.12 cfm/ft². These figures describe tested product characteristics; they do not guarantee the performance or energy savings of an entire garage. Opening dimensions, perimeter seals, glazing, hardware, site conditions and installation quality all influence the completed assembly.

03 · Connected belt-drive operation

Connected operation with backup power.

The project specification identifies a LiftMaster 6580L DC belt-drive opener. LiftMaster lists battery backup, myQ smartphone control and diagnostics, soft start and stop, an integrated adjustable night-vision camera, and motion-activated dual LED lighting rated at 1,500 lumens.

Together, these features support smoother day-to-day access, monitoring and visibility inside the garage. Smart functions depend on compatible equipment, connectivity, account setup and current manufacturer service availability. Product suitability, electrical requirements and accessory compatibility should be confirmed for the specific door and opening.

04 · One coordinated opening

The face, tracks and operator are one decision.

A successful upgrade depends on more than the face of the door. Section dimensions, track geometry, counterbalance hardware, operator rail, reinforcement, safety sensors, headroom and side clearances need to work together as one system.

This project brings the architectural door selection and the operating equipment into a single coordinated package. The black insulated door addresses appearance and enclosure performance, while the belt-drive opener adds connected access, backup power, lighting and camera capability.

Thermal ratings are manufacturer-published panel values and do not represent guaranteed whole-garage energy savings. Product features and warranty coverage remain subject to the manufacturer’s terms and the installed configuration.
